My Work

Project 1

Inclusive Home Design

The design of the inclusive home is inspired by the concept of Biophilic Design – The Human Need To Connect With Nature. The interior design of the home succeeds in providing a healthy environment to my clients through a selection of sustainable materials, natural lighting and ventilation, indoor plants, and energy saving light sources whilst accommodating in mobility challenges. The furniture is custom designed and inspired by nature, in the form of a leaf, to create an environment that promotes the mental and spiritual wellbeing of my clients through organic shaped furniture pieces. Solar panels installed on the roof of the house compliments the sustainability of the home.

Project 2

PG BISON 1.618 EDUCATION INITIATIVE – TANKWA FALLS

The design intention of Tankwa Falls is to create a building where “Instagrammable” moments can be experienced through unique building and interior design. With the movement of water in the form of a waterfall as the design concept, the design of Tankwa Falls succeeds in achieving a flowing and organic building design, as well as interior design where the four elements - fire, water, earth and air - are celebrated.  With custom-designed furniture and design elements influenced by the design concept, the overall building design exudes an open, welcoming and sustainable design which compliments the location of the Tankwa Karoo.

Project 3

Skin-Care Clinic
 Healing Design

The design of the [Skin Aesthetic] Clinic is driven by the concept of creating a sustainable environment. Various design concepts, such as a tree and leaf, are used as inspiration to custom designed furniture as these elements of nature compliment the principles of biophilic design. Sustainability, in the form of sustainable and natural materials, plants, maximum natural lighting, and energy saving light sources is brought to the interior space of the clinic to not only provide a healthy environment, but to promote the health and wellbeing of all occupants who interact with the space as well.

Project 4

Brewpub
Hospitality Design

The  design of the micro-brewery – Green Hops Brewing Company – is inspired by the design concept – the Hop plant. Hops are a main ingredient used in beer as the Lupulin Glands found in the Hop plant hold resins and essential oils that provides bitterness, aroma, flavor and stability to beer. The form of the Lupulin Glands is used as design inspiration to some interior design elements. Green Hops Brewing Company also succeeds in creating a sustainable environment for its occupants with design solutions such as solar energy, maximum natural lighting, vegetation, sustainable materials, and rainwater harvesting systems.

Project 5

Interior Design Collab

The Interior Design Collab project was done by me, Kayla van Speyk, and 3 other BA Interior Design students (2nd and 3rd year). The client, Open Design Afrika (ODA), approached us to design the main event space for their next annual "UBUNTU: The Power of US" festival. The design of the "UBUNTU: The Power of US" festival is inspired by the design concept – "A WALK TOGETHER THROUGH AFRIKA" – with the logo of Ubuntu used for the layout of the event space. The location chosen for the festival is Green Point Park, 1 Fritz Sonnenberg Rd, Green Point, Cape Town as the blend of parks, coastal attractions, and proximity to the city centre makes it a desirable place to host a festival.  The design of the festival reflects the brand identity of Open Design Afrika and provides well considered design solutions that forces people from all walks of life to interact with one another and to enjoy the uniqueness of Africa.

Project 6

Pool House Design
 Technical Work

The design of the double storey pool house consists of a pool house (ground floor level) and a small apartment (first floor level). The pool house design provides an interior space that is open and accessible to the exterior environment and pool area through stacking doors which function as the exterior walls. Sustainable design strategies in the form of sustainable materials, maximum natural light and ventilation, and energy saving lighting are implemented in both the pool house and small apartment. Slip-resistant flooring is used for the pool house to ensure the safety of the occupants. The structural walls of the pool house form the structural walls of the small apartment for effective building resolutions, including drainage.

Project 7

Monaghan Farm, Gauteng
Residential Design

The  design of the residence situated on the Monaghan Farm, Gauteng is inspired by the design concept - a tree branch. A tree is a very sustainable material from beginning to end (root to leaf) and fits well with Monaghan Farm environment and scenery. The structure of the tree branch is used for the structure of the residence through working in layers (double glazing, layering of roof for green roofing, sealing the wood, wooden paneling), making use of wood as the main building and interior material, and custom designed furniture pieces inspired by the form of the tree branch. Sustainable design strategies and solutions are used to create a residence that provides a healthy interior to its occupants and to compliment the beauty of the surrounded natural environment.
